Recognising a DDoS attack on a FiveM server

  • Everyone drops at the same time

    Twenty players get "Connection timed out" at the same second, then nobody can reconnect.

  • Ping spikes, CPU stays calm

    Vehicles teleport and ping jumps from 30 to 400 ms, while the console and resmon show no resource under load.

  • The server disappears from the list

    The server no longer appears in the FiveM list, or shows "not responding", with no change on your side.

  • Absorbs volumetric attacks

    UDP floods, SYN floods and amplification attacks are filtered upstream of the server, on a capacity of over 24 Tbps.

How FiveBunker, the FiveM checkpoint, works

With FiveBunker, your players no longer connect directly to your server. After the network filtering, they go through our FiveM checkpoint: only those who complete the connection handshake get in, the rest is rejected. Your IP is no longer published, your protected address replaces it.

What FiveBunker stops

Attack tools target what a FiveM server exposes. The checkpoint takes these hits in its place.

UDP floods on the game port
Only players who have passed the connection check reach your server. The rest is dropped at the checkpoint.
Fake player connections
The checkpoint follows the FiveM connection handshake through to the end before opening the way. A bot that doesn't complete it stays outside.
Bursts on info.json and players.json
These pages, queried in a loop during an attack, are served from the checkpoint's cache. Your server never receives these requests.
Lookups for your IP
Your server shows up under your protected address, and your players' IPs are masked in players.json.

When the option is worth it

The included protection is enough for most servers. These three situations justify the checkpoint.

  • Launch or new season

    You announce an opening on Discord and TikTok: that's the night a rival server or a troublemaker tries to take you down.

  • Server well placed in the list

    The more visible your server, the more its IP circulates. The checkpoint removes it from the FiveM list.

  • After a ban that turns sour

    A banned player or a former staff member who knows your IP: alerts show you right away if they act on it.

Is anti-DDoS included with FiveM servers?
Yes. Every HelloServ FiveM server runs through L3/L4 protection of over 24 Tbps, at no extra cost and with no setup. The FiveBunker option is an add-on for exposed servers.
What's the difference between L4 protection and the FiveM checkpoint?
L4 protection absorbs volumetric attacks (UDP floods, SYN floods, amplification). FiveBunker, our FiveM checkpoint, sits in front of your server and only lets through connections from real FiveM clients, which blocks attacks that mimic players. For the technically minded: it's a reverse proxy dedicated to FiveM.
How do I know if my server is under attack?
All players disconnecting at once, ping spiking, and the server missing from the list, with a normal CPU: these are the typical signs. With the add-on, you get an alert at the start and end of every attack, and the attack log stays available in the panel.
My server crashes in txAdmin, is that a DDoS?
Rarely. A crash with "hitch warnings" and a heavy resource in resmon usually comes from a script. An attack cuts the network without raising CPU. If in doubt, open a ticket: support checks whether there was an attack on your IP.
Does FiveBunker change anything for my players?
No. On HelloServ's servers, FiveBunker is set up automatically and we adapt the network configuration for you. Your server keeps its name in the FiveM server list, only the address shown becomes your protected address.
Do I need to change host?
No. A server hosted elsewhere stays where it is: you paste a few lines into server.cfg and your players connect through the protected address.

How do I choose my plan?
For a server hosted elsewhere, pick the tier equal to or above your server's maximum player count (sv_maxclients). You move up a tier as your server grows. On HelloServ's servers, the FiveBunker option has a single price, whatever the number of players.
My IP is already known to attackers, is this still useful?
Yes, on one condition: change your IP with your host before activating protection, then stop publishing it. Otherwise an attack can still target the old address directly.
What about a RedM server?
RedM servers have the same included L4 protection and can take the Anti-DDoS Plus option (alerts, attack log, priority support). FiveBunker is for now limited to FiveM.
